River Tweed River Report Week Ending 11^th February.

The week started off with pretty reasonable conditions, but as with last week the water levels continued to fluctuate on an almost daily as the week went on.

Catches were quiet at the start of the week, however Mr Richard Bright fishing on Sprouston landed a lovely 15lber on Monday. Fishing the Junction, Mr Bob Miller landed a lovely 9lber on Tuesday, one of 5 salmon and a sea trout that were landed for the week on Junction.

The water rose over night on Tuesday into Wednesday and we were greeted with grubby water, but this didn't prevent Lower Birgham charming out a cracking 8lb Sea Trout.

At little further upstream on Birgham Dub Mr Colin Somerville caught 2 Salmon on Friday, the first one was an 11lb fish with long tailed lice and second fish about 8lb fresh but no lice both came to the Flunky fly. There was also a cracking 20lb fish landed on at the Dub on Thursday.

It was good to see Rutherford getting their season off and running this week and Upper Hendersyde got off the mark too with a lovely sea liced 9lber for Mr Dick Rodgers caught in the Mill Stream on Friday.

Elsewhere on the river the Floors beats picked away over the course of the week.

Speaking with Ketch on Hendersyde he Commented " We've not had a settled river for more than a couple of days and when it was a good water we caught the odd fish plus kelts, but there seems to be less kelts again this spring but the Springer’s appear to be a good size". 

The week ended with horrendous east winds and heavy rain with the level at Sprouston reaching 3ft 7” and the temperature is 38.

Looking towards next week, the water is very coloured today (Sunday) and I don’t think conditions will be very good for Monday. The opening 2 weeks of Fly Only fishing comes to an end on Wednesday with anglers now allowed to spin (15^th Feb to 14^th Sept).  Given the expected river this week levels there are several beats with availability that would be well worth a cast. Upper North Wark, Lower Birgham & Rutherford are all very reasonably priced with a good chance of connecting with a Springer.
