Upper North Wark Press Release – 6th September 2019

Upper North Wark Press Release – 6th September 2019

International sporting artist, Claire Haggas has kindly agreed to open the doors to an exciting new beginning on a fine River Tweed Salmon Fishery

Upper North Wark Salmon Fishing Beat has undergone a transformation after a major investment new owner Jonathan Hufford. His aim is to provide comfortable and contemporary facilities to delight the visiting angler and their guests.

The investment programme began with the employment of two first class, experienced boatmen to provide one to one assistance to our visiting anglers.  “It is important that our clients receive the best possible service whilst fishing at Upper North Wark and our boat men Martin Ritchie and Richard Farr will ensure this happens” said Mr Hufford.

The investment is already paying off and the catch this year is up 65% on last year with three months of the season to run.

As well as investing in people the new venture has seen the beat replace the previous fishing hut with a splendid new facility for fishers to enjoy during their visit. “The installation of the new hut was a big challenge given that there is no road access and that site was positioned at the bottom of a 15 metre cliff” commented head boatman Martin Ritchie, however the work was successfully completed by the team at Border Build and Renovation in August. It has already been well received by visitors with everyone commenting on the wonderful river views from the new veranda along with the modern comforts you need to enjoy a day by the river.

The new fishing hut was opened by Claire Haggas on 6th September. “My Husband Will and I are life-long fishers, so when Martin approached me to open the new facility at Upper North Wark , I was delighted  to come and enjoy the wonderful new facilities ” Claire has  recently cast a fly in search of salmon in her wedding dress as part of her wedding day celebrations !!  Claire has also kindly provided the beat with some of her acclaimed artwork that will be hung in the fishing hut for visiting anglers to enjoy.

The new team and first class facilities makes Upper North Wark a wonderful place to come and enjoy some excellent salmon fishing on the world renowned River Tweed.
