Willie Gunn Piggy Conehead Tube Salmon Fly Step By Step Fly Tying Instruction

Materials Required

3mm Plastic Tubing
1.8mm Plastic Tubing
Red Thread
Black Bucktail
Yellow Bucktail
Orange Bucktail
Gold Krystal Flash
Orange Wild Boar
Gold Lite Brite
Yellow Hen Hackle
Orange Hen Hackle
Black Hen Hackle
Jungle Cock
Gold Cone

Cut the 3mm tubing to approx 15mm in length and cut a length of 1.8mm tubing slightly longer.
There are a few ways of connecting the tubing together. My preferred method is to cut the 3mm tubing at an angle as when you wynd the thread of it squeezes inwards gripping the inner tube.
Push the inner tubing inside the outer tubing
Catch in the Red Thread
From that starting position I bring the thread forward to grip the inner tube and then cover the area where the inner tube can be seen. I personally like to leave room for the hook sitting in behind the 3mm tubing.
Mix the Orange, Yellow and Black Bucktail together and tie in a bunch around one and a half times the tube body length.
Tie in 4 strands of Gold Krystal Flash
Tie in 5-6 pieces of Orange Wild Boar
Tidy up the body with the thread and bring it back to the rear
Attach the Gold Lite Brite to your thread and varnish or glue the body prior to wynding on.
Wynd on the Gold Lite Brite as a dubbed body.
Tie in the Yellow Hen Hackle
Tie in the Orange Hen Hackle
Tie in the Black Hen Hackle
Tie in the Jungle Cock cheeks and complete the head. At this stage i would varnish the head as if it was the finished fly.
Slide on the Gold Cone
Trim the inner tubing to around 3mm and burr in using a lighter or similar. Try and use the base of the flame as this stops the burn. One issue at this step can be excess varnish or glue that is on the inner tubing outside of the cone, this is very flammable and can cause black looking burns on the burr.
Burred in the inner tubing to secure the cone
More front on view of the burr
The finished fly
