River Tweed River Report Week Ending 3rd April
Another
very disappointing week of catches especially after the 5ft flood that
greeted us on Monday as things settled down as the week went on it would have
been expected that some good numbers of fish would be caught but no that was
not the case and with only 19 fish reported for the week tells its own story.
There does seem to be a real lack of fish in the river at the moment and with
settled looking weather for the next week or two it could be interesting what
is caught, with most beats coming into a fishable level now. 3 fish were
reported from the Whiteadder, on the BDAA water Mr Lee Ross landed a 8lber and
Mr Darren Cornet landed on fish on Saturday on a size 10 Gledswood Shrimp. Mr
David Foreman also had success on a private beat. Hopefully things improve very
soon.
Above Kelso 11 fish were reported, Between Kelso and
Coldstream 4 were reported and below Coldstream 1 was reported. With the best
fishing being on the Lower Floors beat where 3 springers were landed.
19 Salmon and 1 Sea Trout were landed for the week with the best fish 12lb Salmon
caught on the West Learmouth and Boleside beat.

On Upper North Wark, The beat is currently closed to the
public until there is a change in the restrictions. A week of losing fish for

Berwick and District Angling Association Secretary Mr Lee
Ross reports “Good start to the week with a fish caught on Monday on beat 2,
with it being dry all week the rivers now down to 7 inches.. So we're now in
need of rain. On Saturday a fish by Darren cornet as well but I'm yet to hear
what weight and beat its came from.”
We are blessed in this area to have some superb local fishing
tackle shops that are well worth a visit the superb well stocked Borders Gunroom
in St Boswells. I would recommend for a rummage round which and find out from
the local staff what’s currently doing the damage on the river and lochs.
The week
ended with the level at Sprouston 1ft 3” and the water temperature is 42.
At this
stage in the report I would normally have my suggested beats to book for the
week ahead, however with all the Covid Restrictions in place and each beat
using their own guidelines I will refrain from suggestions until the river is
opened back up for fishing a bit more normally.
The
forecast this coming week, Tomorrow, it will be a windy and
cold day with a mix of sunny spells and snow showers. Any accumulations are
likely to be on the hills. Strong northerly winds. Wintry showers will
persist throughout Tuesday, and it will remain chilly. Wednesday will see a few
lingering sleet or snow showers, but these will largely clear to leave a drier
day. There is a chance of a few outbreaks of rain in places overnight. Thursday
will have some outbreaks of rain, these turning heavy in some places. Winds
will strengthen.

Look at
what to bring for the week ahead, Floating or Intermediate line with assorted
poly leaders should suffice on most beats. Black & Yellow, Tosh, Willie
Gunn, Monkey and Posh Tosh are all capable to tempting fish on around 1” tubes, could be worth given a dressed fly
a go in a size 6-8s. On the spinning front Rapala, Flying C and Toby should
bring results.
