River Tweed River Report Week Ending 12th May
Another tough week with rather bright
conditions and what seems like a constant daily wind causing a few issues. Catches
are still on the low side for the time of year, but a few more have been seen
travelling through the bottom beats towards the end of the week.
Above Kelso 20 fish were reported, Mr Al Meek
landed a nice 6lber from the Boat Pool on Drybrugh Upper, while on Bemersyde Mr
John Smith landed a 9lber from the Stream and a Willie Gunn, Mr Robert Lamont landed
a lovely fish from Dish.
Between Kelso and Coldstream 17 fish were
reported, Mr Keith Oates landed a nice 7lb fish from the Junction.
Below Coldstream 9 fish were reported, Mr Niall
Morrison landed a lovely wee fish from Norham.
51 Salmon and 4 Sea Trout, with the best fish for the week was 16lb Salmon
caught on the Rutherford & Hendersyde Beat’s.
Hendersyde Head Boatman Ketch reports “The rods had a bit of
reward for their efforts last week landing 4 springer’s. With the chance of a
few more. Nice to end the week with a nice fresh 16 pounder on a full floating
line. On a worrying note though most of our fish this last few weeks have been
seal damaged”
On Upper North Wark, a week with some strimming
and a few days fishing resulted on 1 lost fish on Saturday for Mr Jonathan
Hufford on the fly from the Top Island and an offer in the back of the isle. We
have reduced our June fishing rate to £25prpd with the service of 2 boatmen

Ladykirk Head Ghillie Mr Matthi Viethen reports “Eventually
off the mark with 7lb very fresh but not liced Brownback last Wednesday and 8lb
springer with long tailed sea lice on Thursday last week. This week we finished
with 6lb liced springer on Thursday and a liced 4lb sea trout on Saturday evening.
Still very quiet for this time of year, but good river conditions down here at
last, after 3 months of constant washout. Let's hope for some fish to come soon”
Horncliffe Head Ghillie Mr Tony Averill reports “Picked up 2
fish and lost 1. Starting to see some fish. Plenty of availability on the beat
with this continued dry weather it’s definitely worth a try. Syndicate rods are

Mr David Cowan secretary of Berwick and District Angling
Association beat on the Whiteadder reports “Whiteadder dropped away all week
and just one clean 8lb fish caught on Saturday. Good to see a few more sea trout entering the system
so with rain forecast over the next few days prospects look good for next week”
The week ended with the level at Sprouston 10” and the water temperature
is 52.
Looking at the availability for this coming week I would recommend the Tweedhill,
Horncliffe, Ladykirk and Pedwell beats, if you fancy fishing the middle river,
the Upper Dryburgh & Lower Dryburgh beats should have a chance of a
springer this week.
The
forecast this coming week, the best of the sunshine on Tuesday
is expected at first, but it will soon become cloudy with some patchy light
rain or drizzle. It will then be largely dry through the course of Tuesday
night. Wednesday will be largely dry with sunny spells, but at times it could
be rather cloudy. Dry overnight too, with long clear spells. Largely dry on
Thursday, but cloud may linger.

With water levels finally starting to drop in and water temperatures
starting to rise Floating lines with poly leaders on the end should cover most
fishing conditions at the moment. Dressed flies around a size 8 to 10 should be
the order of the day, I would suggest are
Copper Cascade, Girnel Shrimp, Gledswood Shrimp and Underghillie should bring
success. If you like to give the spinner a go, Rapala, Toby or Flying C should
bring results.
