River Tweed
River Report Week Ending 29th June
A bit more like summer this week with the air
temperature pushing the high 20’s to 30’s which did not help the fishing
conditions one bit, a small lift on Tuesday helped keep the sea trout and the
odd salmon on the move but this lift fell away quick towards the end of the
week. With most beat’s been onto summer lets now a fair few beats are
unghillied so information for the report is a bit more limited that it normally
is. Mr Chris Cotton had a lovely fish fishing on Lower Floors. Mr Jonathan
Reddin landed his 18lb of the season, a fine 12lb sea liced fish from Lennel.
On Lower Birgham Mr Nick Cartlidge landed a 9lb fish on a size 10 Posh Tosh.
Above Kelso 38 fish were reported, with the Boleside
6, Dryburgh Lower 8 and Rutherford 6 having the best of the fishing.
Between Kelso and Coldstream 25 fish were reported
with Junction 8 having the best of the fishing.
Below Coldstream 7 fish were reported, which seems a
bit quiet for the water conditions last week. Tillmouth landed 3 for the week
and Ladykirk had 2.
On the River Till, a better week with 2 Salmon and
59 Sea Trout were reported, 1 Salmon and 31 Sea Trout at Redscar and Upper Tindal,
1 Salmon and 10 Sea Trout on Lower Tindal and 18 Sea Trout on Flodden and 2 Sea
Trout on Tiptoe. Redscar and Upper Tindal have had a great month for sea trout landing
57 for June.
80 Salmon and 133 Sea Trout, with the best fish for the week was 16lb Salmon caught
on the Upper Makerstoun beat.
Berwick
and District Angling Association Secretary Dave Cowan reports “Nothing to
report from Whiteadder this week. Water level down to 6 inches and no fish
caught. Need rain to get the levels up and fish moving through.
We are blessed in this area to have some superb local fishing
tackle shops that are well worth a visit the superb well stocked Borders
Gunroom in St Boswells and Fin and Game in Kelso I would recommend for a
rummage round which and find out from the local staff what’s currently doing
the damage on the river and lochs.
After any fishing trip on the Tweed it’s always worth a trip
to Kelso to enjoy a superb meal with great atmosphere in the fabulous Contented
Vine restaurant. I would highly recommend it as a must visit during your trip.

The stunning Saddler Cottage, located within the grounds of
Tillmouth Park in now under new ownership. Suitable for fishers and families
this lovely cottage is very handily placed for fishing the Lower and Bottom
Tweed beats. If you would like more information please check out the link https://www.crabtreeandcrabtree.com/properties/saddler-cottage/
The week
ended with the level at Sprouston 3” and the water temperature is 58.
Looking
at the availability for this coming week I would recommend the Rutherford,
Tillmouth and Ladykirk beats should have a chance of some action this week.
The
forecast this coming week, a dry start to the day with some
sunny periods. It will become cloudier around the middle of the day, and the
odd isolated light shower cannot be entirely ruled out. A dry end to the day.
Wednesday is expected to be a dry day with sunny periods and with light winds.
. Both days look a little cooler than normal for the time of year. Thursday
should be largely dry with sunny spells, although cloud and perhaps the odd
spot of rain will spread in from the north later and overnight. Friday is
likely to see further rain and it may become very breezy or windy.
As always
I would like to thank all those who provide me with the information to make
this report, it is very much appreciated. If you have any information or
photo’s you would like included please get in touch with Martin on 07825334427
or info@taysalmonfly.co.uk
Look at
what to bring for the week aheads fishing, Floating lines with assorted poly
leaders should suffice on most places with Gledswood Shrimp, Sunray Shadow,
Ghillie and Cascader are all capable to tempting fish on half inch or dressed
flies in size 8 and 10. On the spinning front the Blue Rapala, 18-20gm tobies
should bring results.
As always
come prepared and always listen to the advice of your boatman or ghillie. If
you’re needing to top up your fly box ahead of your trip please check out
