River Tweed River Report Last 2 Weeks Of The Season - Tay Salmon Fly

River Tweed River Report Last 2 Weeks Of The Season

W/C 18th Nov Well much like the rest of November the water conditions weren’t the best with constant dirty water and regular rises. Quite a few beats shut the doors early due to the lack of fish in the system and with a lot of kelts been seen and caught the thoughts were we were doing more damage than good fishing over potential spawning fish. Below Kelso continued to be nearly unfishable with any real hope of catching due to the water clarity and this continued into the last week of the season. Around 10 fish were caught for the week, mostly from the upper river.

W/C 25th Nov As has been the case near all month we were greeted with yet another rise on Sunday with for the beats below Kelso signalled the end to their fishing season more so when the 5ft lift came through on Wednesday bringing in proper muck that kept the water coloured past closing day on the 30th. Around 4 fish were reported for the week from the upper river.

The final catch figures will not be fully known until March time when the River Tweed Commission have their quarterly meeting, but a rough estimate looks like around 6000 Salmon and 2100 Sea Trout.

As the season has now drawn to a close I would like to pass on my thanks you everyone who supplies me with information to use in these reports. Without them it just wouldn’t be as detailed as it is. To all Ghillies/Boatmen enjoy the winter and look forward to getting back after the Springers in 2020. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all the readers and Tight Lines for 2020.
