Cascade Copper Tube Salmon Fly Step By Step Fly Tying Instruction
Requested By Mark Steele
Materials Required
Copper Tube
Black Thread
Silver Oval Tinsel
Orange Bucktail
Yellow Bucktail
Pearl Krystal Flash
Silver Holographic Tinsel
Black Floss
Dyed Black Silver Fox Tail
Yellow Cock Feather
Orange Hen Feather
Place the tube of your choice in the vice, I am using a 3/4" copper tube.
Start your thread working your way to the rear catching in the silver oval tinsel as you go.
Create the tag using the silver oval tinsel, do not cut it off!
Mix the yellow and orange bucktail together and tie in as a tail roughly one and a half times the length of the tube.
Tie in 3 strands of pearl krystal flash.
Create the rear half of the body with silver holographic tinsel.
Catch in the black floss and wynd forward creating the front half of the body.
Bring the silver oval tinsel forward at even gaps to make the rib.
Take a pinch of dyed black silver fox hair rolling it in your fingers to create shape, removing any guard hairs and fluff that remains.
Tie in 3 strands of pearl krystal flash.
Tie in the yellow hackle feather.
Tie in the orange hackle feather then tidy up the head, whip finish and varnish the head to complete.
The completed fly.
The Cascade is a very versatile pattern and the colour variations are plentiful, just swap the silver holographic tinsel for any colour you like and/or try different colours of flash. Tie away and create your own killer colour combination.
