River Tweed
River Report Week Ending 4th September
The long
wait for water continues with yet another dry week. The week started with a bit
more harr and cooler weather which seemed to bring the fish on the take and the
catches were better, by midweek is was back to the struggle that have been
becoming far too familiar lately with the daily catch struggling to get into
double figures. Unless a load of fish turn up the wait for the rain goes on to
see if a good flood will make a difference or is the season just going to
pitter out, time will tell.
Above Kelso 46 fish were
reported, Between Kelso and Coldstream 79 were reported and below Coldstream 52
were reported. With the best fishing being on the Tillmouth beat where 19
salmon were landed.
177 Salmon and 13 Sea Trout were
landed for the week with the best fish 21lb Salmon caught on the Lower Pavilion
beat.

The week
ended with the level at Sprouston 0” and the water temperature is 60.
Looking
at the availability for the week ahead, the river is really busy with not much
availability for the next few months. If you are looking to fish the river I
would suggest booking sooner rather than later to avoid missing out. I would
recommend Ladykirk and Horncliffe Beats to be in with a chance of fish this
week.
The
forecast this coming week, Tomorrow will be quite cloudy but dry
to start, with the odd bright spell in places. However, cloud will gradually
fragment as the day progresses, with plenty of sunny spells later. Wednesday
looks to be dry with extensive sunshine, and it will become particularly warm
for the time of year. However, a few spots of rain are possible later in the
day. Thursday will see a return to cooler, unsettled weather; thundery
outbreaks of rain are likely. On Friday, it will continue unsettled with spells
of rain or showers, but sunshine may also develop at times.
As always
I would like to thank all those who provide me with the information to make
this report, it is very much appreciated. If you have any information or
photo’s you would like included please get in touch with Martin on 07825334427
or info@taysalmonfly.co.uk
Look at
what to bring for the week ahead, floating with assorted poly leaders should
suffice on most beats. Red and Black Frances, Willie Gunn Flamethrower, Ghillie,
Sunray Shadow, Silver Stoat’s Tail and Editor are all capable to tempting fish
on around ¼”- ½” tubes, dressed flies are now worth a go more often in a size
8-14s. On the spinning front Rapala, Flying C and Toby should bring results.
As always
come prepared and always listen to the advice of your boatman or ghillie. If
you’re needing to top up your fly box ahead of your trip please check out
