River Tweed River Report Week Ending 21st July
Another week passes with no real change in the
conditions other than a bit of rain on Friday afternoon to perk the grass up a
bit.
5 of the week’s catch been reported caught
above Kelso. 17 fish were reported between Kelso and Coldstream and 37 reported
below Coldstream. With the conditions we had on the river this week, well done
to those who put the effort in and were rewarded with some sport. This week
coming looks quite similar with hot sunshine forecast and very low water
conditions, below summer levels on most beats. Dawn and Dusk could be the best
times to be fishing.
On the River Till, nothing was reported
65 Salmon and 1 Sea Trout, with the best fish for the week was 13lb Salmon
caught on the Birgham Dub Beat.
Hendersyde Head Boatman Ketch reports “My rods
fished the pools very lightly due to the conditions making good use of the
extra time to enjoy what the borders have to offer with some good walks in our
lovely countryside. It also gave me a chance to get some bank maintenance done
that wouldn’t have been possible if the river had been at a normal height”
On
Upper North Wark, Another warm week and very low water conditions for us. Got
some essential river work done to keep us prepared for the water when it
finally comes.
Horncliffe Head Ghillie Mr Tony Averill reports “A good week
at Horncliffe, 4 fish landed for 14 rod days fished, lots of pulls, chases and
follows. Each beat caught fish this week and plenty of fish are been seen on
the dull days or late into the evening. Some availability this week and with
the weather forecast I would encourage early starts and late finishes”
Mr David Cowan secretary of Berwick and District Angling
Association beat on the Whiteadder reports “Nothing to report”
The week ended with the level at Sprouston -1” and the water temperature
is 68.
Looking at the availability for this coming week I would recommend the
Ladykirk, Pedwell, Horncliffe and Tweedhill beats should have a chance of some
action this week.
The
forecast this coming week, Tuesday will see a few showers for
a time but it should tend to become drier and brighter as the day progresses
with a few warm spells of sunshine. Most places will be dry on Tuesday night. A
warm day on Wednesday with periods of sunshine. Warm again on Thursday with
some sunshine but a risk of one or two pulses of rain spreading from the
south-west later on.

With water levels getting back towards summer levels and the water
temperature being in the late 60’s Floating lines with poly leaders on the end should
cover most fishing conditions at the moment. Dressed flies around a size 12 to
14 should be the order of the day, I
would suggest are Copper Cascade, Stenton Shrimp, Gledswood Shrimp, Kylie
Shrimp, Editor and Sunray Shadow should bring success. If you like to give the
spinner a go, Rapala or Toby should bring results.
