River Tweed River Report Week ending 4th February
Wednesday saw the opening of the River Tweed 2017 salmon
fishing season. Unfortunately the river rose over night and most beats were
greeted with dirty water especially those below the Teviot, the Leader also
came through the middle beats. The beats
around the Wark area and below did manage to get in a bit of fishing before the
dirty water reached them. Mr Mike Graham fishing at Upper North Wark had
contact with what we were pretty sure was a Springer sadly it didn’t stay on.
With conditions looking better on Thursday with the water
clarity more beery and 41 degrees. The 1st Springer from the Tweed
was landed by Mr Rob Jameson fishing on Birgham Dub under the guidance of
Boatman Mr Brian Douglas.
Further up the river Mr Tony Black landed a lovely
fish on Hendersyde. Junction got off the mark with a lovely Springer for Mr
David Clover. A 4th fish for the day was landed at Upper Floors.
Friday saw the best catches of the week 9 Springer’s landed.
Mr Ian Hayward and Mr Bob Miller added to the Junctions catches while at
Sprouston Mr Douglas Campbell had a 9lb fish and his guest a cracking fish of
15lb. The 1st reported Sea Trout was caught by Mr Tony Black on
Hendersyde.
The water rose over night into Saturday and coloured up the
river, it sounded like most beat were done by lunchtime with the conditions
getting worse. On the evening levels at Sprouston the level was 3ft 2 and water
temperature was 43.
