River Tweed River Report Week Ending 18th November 2017 - Tay Salmon Fly

River Tweed River Report Week Ending 18th November

As we enter the last full week of the season, the river has really shut down the past week with catches very low over the middle and lower beats, some fish are still been caught away up the tops but they won’t be a very bonnie colour. Roll on the Spring!

66 Salmon and 2 Sea Trout, with the best fish for the week was 21lb Salmon caught on the Middle Pavilion Beat.

Above Kelso 42 Salmon were reported with the catches scattered about over the area.

Between Kelso and Coldstream 16 Salmon were reported.

On Upper North Wark, No lets this week.

Lees Head Boatman Mr Malcolm Campbell reports “Very quiet week, only 2 fish although one was fresh. Very few fish left here and a few more kelts showing. Water was in perfect condition all week”

Below Coldstream no fish were reported.

On the tributaries, the main beats on the Till were quiet this week with no fish reported. Over on the River Ettrick 2 fish were reported, while on the Teviot no fish were reported.

The week ended with the level at Sprouston 9” and the water temperature is 40.

The forecast this coming week looks quite unsettled with some periods of heavy rain with the winds picking up toward the middle of the week.

As always I would like to thank all those who provide me with the information to make this report, it is very much appreciated. If you have information and photo’s you would like included please get in touch with Martin on 07825334427 or info@taysalmonfly.co.uk

Water temperatures are starting to cool down dressed flies in sizes 8 or 10, if you prefer tubes over dressed flies ½”” and ¾”” should be about right. Copper Cascade, Tritton Shrimp, Newtyle Shrimp, Ghillie, Pot Belly Pig, Snaelda, Red Frances & Junction Shrimp should bring success. As always come prepared and always listen to the advice of your boatman or ghillie. If you’re needing to top up your fly box ahead of your trip please check out www.taysalmonfly.co.uk
